My picks: 1 book, 1 album, 1 movie

The Cuckoo’s Calling is a crime fiction novel written by a new writer, Robert Galbraith, or so we thought. It turns out this novel was not a debut after all, but written by the beloved best selling author J.K. Rowling. As a Harry Potter enthusiast I was eager to read this novel, and I am so glad I did. Once I picked up this book I could not put it down. This novel follows an investigation into the death of Lula Landry, a famous supermodel, headed by private investigator Cormoran Strike. Strike is a compelling character who we learn more about as the novel proceeds while still following the investigation. The Cuckoo’s Calling has a riveting plot line that keeps you guessing till the end. I am happy to say I have a new friend on my shelf.

On December 13, 2013 the world received a surprise; Beyonce released a new album. And as always, Mrs. Carter did not disappoint. Since this album has come out I’ve been listening to it non stop. A combination of soul and hip-hop music makes for the perfect Beyonce album, not to mention her artistic visual videos she includes. From the soulful “Heaven” to the more upbeat “Drunk in Love” featuring Jay-Z to the Prince-like sound of “No Angel” this collection of songs provides a great listening experience. In addition to this, it is amazing that Beyonce was able to make this a complete surprise to the world, with no media leaks.

American Hustle is a Golden Globe winning film with the possibility of an Academy Award. It is filled with alluring characters and a humorous and intriguing plot. Great seventies music and costuming gave the audience a window into that era. Amy Adams plays the fiery leading lady with plunging necklines along side Christine Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, which made for a talented cast. All of these actors brought their skills to the table.
